Could he like me? If he does we have a problem..?

My best friend and I like the same guy. Hevwas new to our school this year and since he's in my homeroom I was first to see him. At lunch I told her I thought he was cute and she's like whatever I think he's ugly! Then like a week later she told me she liked him a tonnnnn and now she still does. But I do too. I got his number from someone else and I started texting him even though I had only talking to him once before. It was always a bit akward. But my clroom desks are arranged like a horse shoe and he sits across the room straight across facing me and he always glances over at me and when I catch him he just gives a blank stare. So then a few weeks ago our Spanish teacher paired us up for a project and it was the most akward thing EVER!! So we just got it over with. Do u people ever get wierded out when someone u hardly know texts u and acts like nothings wrong? Well today he randomly txted me and I was glad and I kept asking him y he was texting me and he seemed to be avoiding that question and refused to answer. He finally gave in and said alright I am bored of my friend cuz were fishing and he's annoying. So I'm like that means I'm entertaining and he's like yep sure!! And the whole time I was being flirty and playful and teasing him alot but he was hardly responding! Like in school, I am quiet and respond with oneword answers and he talks and talks forever! But when we text, it's the other way around! And now whenever I'm with my friend he always texts me bcuz they're neighbors and she gets mad and thinks I'm trying to steal him but she never even talks to him!! So advice? U think he likes me? What to do about my friend?
