Vacuum Cleaner just went up in flames?

Got a new hoover last week and just used it for the first time today, started smelling burning and then smoke started coming out of it and I noticed it was on fire, unplugged it quickly and doused it in water but my carpet now has scorch marks, where do I stand legally? My wife thinks I set it on fire on purpose.
