Rather than freeze raw ground beef, can I brown it and keep it in the fridge for later use?

I hate freezing ground beef because it's such a pain to thaw out (it gets kind of gross if defrosted in microwave) so I was wondering if I browned it and kept it in a container in the fridge if it would keep well. I would probably use it for a hamburger helper meal or tacos later, but I don't have those ingredients right now, and the meat is about to turn.
